CONCERT GOERS MAY LOSE OUT TO TICKET BROKERS

TICKETS

People looking for tickets to concerts and sporting events may not get the chance to buy them on "Ticket Master" or any other well known ticket outlet because there are others using computers and auto dialers to flood Ticket Master with calls as soon as tickets are to go on sale, and buy up all available ticket in a short period of time, only to resale them at higher prices either through ads in news papers or online. Ticket Master has even joined the investigation to put a stop to this type of ticket sales.

He felt that they really did nothing wrong.

TRIBAL MEMBERS INDICTED

HUNT

Nine members of the Makah tribe of the Seattle area, have been indicted on charges in the illegal whale hunt.

In 1994, the Federal gov't removed the California gray whale from the endangered species list. In 1999, the tribe gor a permit through the National Marine Fisheries Service, to kill one whale, which would provide the tribe with a year's worth of whale meat. They killed their first whale in over 70 years. Although the Government allowed that first hunt, there were negotiations to allow the tribe to continue the hunts. Nothing was final.

The man who lead this illegal hunt was the same man who lead the first whale hunt in 1999, in which they are allowed to hunt as their ancestors did, with harpoons. The tribals elders say that these men did not have permission from the tribe and they used high powered rifles this time.

HUNTSVILLE, ALABAMA PLANNING TO REOPEN FALLOUT SHELTERS

FALLOUT SHELTERS

Because of the increasing threat of an al-Qiada attacks, Huntsville, AL in working on reopening the fallout shelters that were built or designated during the cold war. These shelters were closed after the fall of the Soviet Union. Even the air raid sirens have been changed to tornado sirens.

The one worry I have is, those shelters were laughingly inadequate during the cold war. Most wouldn't have protected anyone from a nuclear attack. Huntsville wants to reopen these shelters in fear that al-Qiada might use a dirty bomb to attack the US.

MAN LIVED WITH DEAD ROOMMATE'S BODY A MONTH

BODY

David Morse, 40, waited a month to report his 86 yr old roommate's death while he cleaned out the roommates bank account and cashed his checks. The reason he didn't report the death is because he had an active warrant for his arrest for non-payment of child support. So far the roommate's death is under investigation.

SIX DIE FROM A BRAIN EATING AMEOBA AFTER SWIMING IN LAIKE

BRAIN EATING MICRO-ORGANISM

Six young men have died after swimming in Lake Havasu, near Phoenix, AZ. What killed them was a single cell organism that lives in lakes, ponds, swimming pools that haven't been maintained well. It enters the boy through the nose or other opening and makes its way to the brain, which it feeds on.

U. OF WISSCONSIN SECURITY LOOK FOR SUICIDAL GUNMAN

GUNMAN

The University has been receiving calls from a suicidal man who they believe doesn't really want to shoot anyone but is trying to provoke the police into shooting him.

Jesse Miller, 19, has a history of mental illness and was on a work release program after serving most of an armed robbery conviction.

He made a call to the police on Tuesday that he was on the parking deck of the hospital and was going to shoot anyone who came near him. He also called ina bomb threat to the hospital on campus.

The police really believe that he is trying to provoke a suicide by cop.

BEAKED WHALES ARE AFFECTED BY SONAR TEST

WHALES

There is a small group of whales that have been shown to be effected by sonar tests. Beaked whale have been shown to be more sensitive to such after. After a series of tests by the Navy, some beaked whales washed a shore and they were shown to have bleeding around the brain.

Beaked whales dive deeper than most others whales and that may be the reason that they are more sensitive to mid range sonar.

BENT ARROW, WHAT REALLY HAPPENED ON AUG. 29

MIS-STEPS

It turns out that the B-52 that flew from Minot AFB with nuclear missiles was supposed to be carrying some obsolete missiles to be destroyed. The problems began at the storage locker where conventional missiles were stored with nuclear ones. The second was that the ordinance handlers didn't notice the nuclear labels on half the missiles the pulled to be loaded or even during the loading process. The pilot made the mistake of signing off on everything without doing a "walk around" which most pilots do, to check if the missiles are secured, check for any damage to the plane and if its clear to move it.

It took almost 24hrs before the mistakes were noticed.

SHE MAY GO TO MIT, BUT SHE'S NOT SMARTER THAN A FIFTH GRADER

SHIRT

A student from MIT was wearing a hooded sweatshirt with a plastic circuit board with some different color LEDS on it and a battery, She walked up to the information counter at Logan Airport to check on an incoming flight when the lady behind the counter notified security. Shorty, the student was surrounded by security cops with guns drawn.

The student, Star Simpson, said the device was something all the electrical engineering majors were wearing during the week when prespective employers were on campus during career week.

RALLIES- CON'T

Dennis said...

It's a way to keep Jesse and Al in power

Yeah but who would hold rallies if there were six "good ole boys" beat up a black kid. There would be a lynch mob waiting to hang them, but all because 4oo years ago, Africans were brought here to be slaves, black can get away with anything.

JENA SI X RALLIES

SIX

I can't believe that they are having rallies in New Orleans and Atlanta backing a group of students that they have labeled the "Jena Six." You know that if it was a black student nearly beat to death by a group of white boys, there would be protest calling for those white boys heads. I think its a way to keep the black majority in New Orleans. Without the Ward 9 area being rebuilt at this time, NO has lost its black majority status.

CONGRESS TO GIVE FDA BROADER POWERS

RULES

Congress is set to give the FDA more power. One of the new regulations is that pharmaceutical companies will have to pay a new user fee totalling some $225 million over five years. This fee will cover all drug safety tests. Used to be that a drug company would pay a fee only when they submitted a new drug to be tested.

The FDA will also have the power to control the commerical ads of drugs that are out on the market.

O.J. SIMPSON RELEASED

After being charged with 10 felonies and originally being held without bail, O.J.'s lawyers managed to get him a bail hearing and he was released on a $125,000 bail. After leaving the courthouse, O.J. was escorted to the airport, where passengers were off loaded until O.J. and his lawyers boarded and took their seats. Then the passengers were allowed to reboard the plane. He flew back to his home in Kendall, FL. A fifth person is being sought in connection for the crimes.

ALABAMA PLAN

DESEGREGATION

A school district in Alabama is using the "No child left behind" law to move black students to schools closer to their neighborhoods. It smacks of desegregation, which has many parents in an uproar. To me, is seems like a way to get parents and others involved in improving those schools. Make repairs, keep drugs and guns out, hire better teachers in those schools. That way black students in black schools will do just as well as white students.

O.J. SIMPSONS ARRESTED, HELD WITHOUT BOND

ARMED ROBBERY

Even intimidating a witness couldn't keep Simpson from being arrested this time. The memorabilia collector who was robbed at gunpoint of items Simpson said was stolen from him, later recorded a phone call from Simpson trying to get the victim to change his story about guns being involved in the robbery. So another charge of tampering with a witness could be involved. If convicted, Simpson could spend up to 30 years in prison. Maybe he is tired of sleeping of friend's couches or where ever and decided to live off the state for a while. He's become more popular as a criminal than as a football star. He tried acting and sportscasting after he retired from football, but wasn't too successful at either. Only his Avis commercials brought him some success.

SEPT. 11, SIX YEARS LATER

BLOOD OF HEROES

Yes I know this shows up as 9/12, but I spent the day listening to stories about 9/11/01. I even watched the replay of the Today Show, that I was watching that morning.

You know, there was a psychologist named Baldura, who claimed that children exposed to violent tv becomes desensitized by it. Well, I'm here to tell you that isn't true for everyone. I grew up in a military family and I've seen more war movies than I can count. But when those towers fell, I cried like a baby. To know that I just saw over 3,000 people die was more than I could handle. And that day, when everyone at first thought it was debris falling from the towers, i knew it was people jumping.

For those who are against the war on terror need to remember what happened six years ago

FBI COLLECTED MORE PHONE RECORDS THAN PREVIOUSLY THOUGHT.\

FBI

The FBI had originally said they wanted the records of those who they suspected of being in contact with possible terrorist cells, but if turns out that they collected alot more information, even on those who were never suspected of any wrong doing. If I didn't know better I would swear J. Edger Hoover had returned from the dead. During his reign as head of the FBI, he also threw people rights out the window.

THE RIGHT TO BEAR ARMS

GUN CONTROL

The District of Columbia is asking the Supreme Court to rule in their favor of banning hand guns in the city. They argue that the Second Amendment applies to the militia or what is now the National Guard. They are also not including in their ban shotguns and rifles. Their claim in will reduce crimes. The problem is that criminals can always find ways to get gun illegally. So, taking handguns away from law abiding citizens will only make them more vunerable to the criminals.

ODESSA POILICE SHOT WHILE RESPONDING TO 911 CALL

911

The police were responding to a domestic call when the wife came from the house, saying her husband had a gun. When the police tried to enter the front door it was locked, as the came around the back the husband came out shooting, killin both before retreating back into the house for a 4 hr standoff.

I've heard from several former police officers that domestic calls are the worst to respond to. Even though you are there to help, sometimes the one who called will turn around and attack the police for arresting their spouse.

DUKE LACROSSE PLAYERS SEEK A LAWSUIT

RAPE CASE

With the former prosecutor spending a day in jail for his handling of the case, the three lacrosse players are seeking a settlement with the city of $30 million dollars and some changes in the way the police handle such cases in the future. Such changes are:

An oversight of the police department by an independent commission, stricter procedures and videotaping of witness identifications conducted by the police, and the passage of a City Council resolution calling on the state to establish ombudsmen for district attorney’s offices and require the transcription of grand jury proceedings.

Hopefully with these changes, the next DA can't go on another witch hunt to solve a crime.

NEW ORLEANS NURSING HOME OWNERS ACQUITTED

NEW ORLEANS

The owners of St. Rita's nursing home was acquitted in the deaths of 35 residents that drowned during the flood caused when the levees broke during Hurricane Katrina. The residents that did survive were laying on plastic covered mattresses, which allowed those mattresses to float.

The Manganos, who claimed that they stayed with the residents and did all they could to save them, blame LA Governor Blanco for ordering an evacuation of New Orleans. I agree that both Blanco and Mayor Nagin should share in the responsibility for those deaths. The National Weather Service had warned that New Orleans was going to be hit by Hurrican Katrina. Washington had even called Blanco, wanting her to call out the National Guard. Her and N.O. Mayor Nagin thought they could just call for help and it would arrive. In all previous hurricanes to hit the US, the local government and the states Emergency Management System is supposed to kick in and do what they can to protect their citizens. The after the storm, FEMA rolls in to set up temporary shelters and emergency supplies.

Governor Blanco didn't want to call out the National Guard unless she had control of them, not Washington. Mayor Nagin had a parking lot full of school buses he could have commandeered to be used for evacuation. And as for drivers, in an emergency, you don't have to have "bus drivers" to drive a bus. Anyone who can drive a truck should be able to drive a bus. So, no the Manganos weren't directly complicit in the deaths of those resident, they tried their best to save those they could. Those in local government who dropped the ball should be found guilty of those deaths.

RARE GRIZZLY BEAR KILLED IN IDAHO

BEAR

The first grizzly bear seen in Idaho since 1946 was killed by a hunter who was hunting black hear, which is in season right now. The hunter and his guide skinned and brought the carcass out on horseback from the remote, road less area and turned it over to the wildlife authorities for identification. It is not known if they were be charged or fined, but the authorities said that for the rest of the black bear season, hunters will be warned of possible grizzlies in the area and that they are protected.

Wildlife officials removed the protecting from the grizzlies in the Yellowstone Area, angering some environmentalist, because it is believed their population is large enough that it can sustain itself. But, the population between Idaho and Montana isn't large enough yet to sustain itself without man's help.

Even California, who has a grizzly bear on it's state flag hasn't seen one since the 1920's. According to Wikipedia, the online encyclopedia:

The California grizzly bear (Ursus californicus) disappeared from the state of California in 1922 when the last one was shot in Tulare County

There are efforts to re-introduce the grizzly back into California.

FEDERAL JUDGE STRIKES DOWN "SECURITY LETTERS'

FBI

A Federal judge in New York has struck down one of the tools the FBI has been using as part of the Patriot Act. Security Letters, which compelled communications businesses to turn over their records to the FBI and prevented those companies from telling their customers what they have done.

Judge Marrero said he feared that the law could be the first step in a series of intrusions into the judiciary’s role that would be “the legislative equivalent of breaking and entering, with an ominous free pass to the hijacking of constitutional values.”

Its the first attempt to reel in the FBI. They were going in the direction of the "Elliot Ness" days.

WHALES, CONTINUED

Once again, if navy Sonar is harming whales, why aren't thousands of SONAR Buoys in the Atlantic and Pacific causing mass hysteria? Why haven't these mass stranding been reported until the mid 90's and linked to SONAR? There has been SONAR since the 40's and very powerful SONAR since the 60's, why has this not become a major issue until now? Once again, it is easier to blame man than actually discovering the real cause.

I did want to take this item separate because what is being "tested" is a new mid range sonar, one that can detect the newer, quieter submarines. Scientist are finding that it somehow causing the bends in toothed whales. You never hear about the baleen whales beaching, such as humpbacks and right whales. It could be because just like submarines, they can drop down below a thermal layer that disrupts sonar. Subs use such tactics to try and avoid detection.

BOMBER FLYS OVER US WITH NUKES, CON'T

Dennis said...

An atomic bomb also landed in a backyard in NC, plus others.

Yes that did occur in 1958, but as I said, not since the Thule AFB, Greenland, in 1968, incident has bombers been allowed to fly with armed nuclear weapons.
The story about the SC incident is on a website titled "So Long Savannah."

An excerpt from the website:

At precisely 4:19 PM on March 11, 1958, a month after the Savannah incident, a similar bomb, but purportedly without a nuclear payload, was inadvertently dropped from a B-47 when the aircraft experienced electrical problems while flying over Mars Bluff, near Florence, South Carolina (see newsreel). Exploding over ground zero, it injured six people and left an enormous 70 feet wide, 30 feet deep crater. The high explosives used to trigger an atomic bomb are by themselves a significant threat. The detonator (all by itself) destroyed local farmer Walter Gregg’s house and wounded five members of his family while damaging cars, houses, and churches as far away as five miles. Obviously, when Air Force spokesmen say that unarmed bombs aren’t dangerous, they are talking through their hats. Hundreds of bomb fragments were recovered and the area was monitored for radiation. Even now, nearly six decades later, traces of radiation can still be detected with a Geiger counter.

FUMES FROM MICROWAVE POPCORN FLAVORING CAN BE HARMFUL

POPCORN

ConAgra and Showtime II are both considering stopping of the use of the flavor chemical diacetyl, which gives the popcorn its buttery flavor. The chemical has already been shown to cause bronchiolitis obliterans, a rare life-threatening disease often called popcorn lung, among the factory workers and one doctor and a clinic specializing in lung diseases, is concerned it could show up in consumers too. According to the article, it could be a year to find a replacement flavoring agent.

BOMBER FLYS OVER US WITH LIVE NUKES

NUKES

The incident took place on Aug 30th when a B-52 armed with 6 nuclear weapons took off from Minot AFB, North Dakota, and flew to Barksdale AFB in Louisiana. The mistake was discovered when the plane landed and the munitions commander at Minot was immediately discharged. Six munition handlers are being investigated. Not since the late '60s have planes been permitted to fly with nuclear weapons on board. That changed when to accidents occurred. One happened over Spain in 1966 when a B-52 collided with a tanker during re-fueling. The bomber was carrying 4 nuclear bombs, un-beknownst to the Spanish Govt. My Uncle James was killed in that incident. The second happened over Greenland in 1968.

Hell, Paris Hilton was punished worse than this guy and she didn't even hurt anyone. He needed to be the example that people should not play politics when dealing with peoples lives. The one thing that I detest about any politician is that they will go to no ends to use people to get where they want to go.

I agree and each of those players should sue him for all he's worth. He could have permanently ruined those guys lives had he been able to continue.

Politicians do anything, say anything, use anyone, just to get ahead. That's why there is no such thing as an honest politician And they make promises they never intend to keep. The father of our present President promised if he was elected, he would release all the information that the CIA had in the Kennedy assassination, since he was one time head of the CIA and knew what was in those files. But, of course that never happened.

Showing my age, there was only on honest politician in Alabama and that was Shorty Price. He used to run for Governor but never won. He believed in term limits and only a 2 yr term. He said that if you couldn't steal enough money from the state in two years, you didn't need to be Governor. He said Alabama needed three things, a Camel ciggarette in one hand, a Budweiser in the other and Shorty Price as Governor.

I don't know why anyone is surprised, It was in the NAFTA Bill. It just took a long time for them to implement that provision. If I understand it right, the truckers who enter the country must speak English, but we all know how well these laws are enforced. Only time will tell if they are using the trucks to smuggle things other than goods across the Border. Hopefully there is a way to track them once the enter the Country and move to their destination.

I agree, it was in NAFTA, and they have taken a long time to implement it, but they still haven't worked out how these trucks will operate. I would think they would have to pass emission standards here in the US. And I would hope they would pass other inspections. No "beater" trucks on the highway. Inspect for contraband, including illegals. One good thing is they will have to buy American gas and maybe spending money for food and lodging.

ENDANGERED WHALES LOSE IN FEDERAL COURT, CON'T

Dennis said...

It has never been proven that the SONAR causes the whales to beach themselves or wreak other havoc in the ocean. If SONAR was the root cause of the problem, wouldn't it stand to reason that since WWII that whales would have been beaching themselves en masse since then and would have caused a mass extinction of several species? The whole issue is based on junk science.

SONAR TESTING

This article documents several major beachings of toothed whales in link with sonar testing.

BENDS

This article by the National Geographic links mid range sonar a condition like the bends that effect whales, causing them to beach.

COVER UP

This article in the Washington Post shows that after tests off of North Carolina, there was a mass beaching of toothed whales. One reporter who follows stories of beached whales wrote a report mentioning the sonar testing. When the Navy released their findings, sonar testing was never mentioned as a possible cause.

And although I can't remember the scientist's name, on the National Geographic Channel, the guy has been studying whale beachings around Florida. He and placed several underwater microphones around the area. One day he noticed a small pod of dolphins trying to beach themselves. When he turned on his microphones, he caught the sound of the sonar of a passing navel ship. That, he believed, was proof of the link between sonar and beachings.

ENDANGERED WHALES LOSE IN FEDERAL COURT

WHALES

In a decision that left environmentalists upset. The court in California has lifted an injunction preventing the Navy from conducting sonar tests off the coast of CA. It is believed by the environmentalist that those tests are responsible for whole pods of certian whales to beach themselves, causing many to die. One of the judges said that since the US is involved in two wars, national security comes before the saefty of a few endangered whales.

MEXICAN TRUCKS TO BE ALLOWED ON US HIGHWAYS

In a trial program, 100 Mexican Trucking companies will be allowed to cross into the US, bringing Mexican goods to the US. This was supposed to be part of the NAFTA agreement that President Clinton signed off on, but that part of the deal has never been inforced.

The one problem I see is that those trucks could be carrying more than Mexican products to the US. Illegals are trucked in everyday as it is.

Sounds interesting. I'm wondering if it would be a feasible plan?? Is this something you are thinking or have you read this is what is on the agenda? I can't see the companies allowing same pay.

Maybe the companies won't want to do it, but it would stop jobs from leaving the US, and would definitely stop illegals from crossing over. Why come here when you get paid the same at home. And some of those jobs that they are sending to India could be filled by people like me or those coming back from the war. How hard is it to operate a call center? I did it for 3 yrs. And Americana's wouldn't be trusting their personal information to someone on foreign soil. Credit card companies, food stamp offices, and others are shipping their call centers to India.

I agree, Sam Walton, founder of Walmart is probably rolling in his grave because before he died, Walmart was promoting "Made in the USA" until an investigative reporter showed that shirts sold there were really made in Vietnam and the "Made in the USA" label was sown on in the USA.

I know back in the late 1800s, early 1900a, the US become isolationist and there is something to be said for that. American money stayed in the US. The stock market didn't crash until the US tried to help Germany rebuild its economy after WW I. That was when our money started leaving our shores for economic reasons and it hasn't stopped since.

ISLAMIC SCHOOL SET TO OPEN IN NYC, CON'T

Joe Janes said...

I think you're right in that some caution should be taken, but don't confuse the religion for the terrorists. Just like in America where there are extremists hijacking Christianity, there are extremists hijacking Islam. They don't represent the whole religious community.

True, but last year when there was a rash of Muslim suicide bombers blowing up bus loads of people in the middle east, one network news reported asked Muslims that have lived in the US most if not all of their lives and they said that they agreed with the bombers. That Muslms have the right to kill all infidels and infidels are those oppose the Muslim faith. And in England they showed that the Muslims used their "schools" to promote hatred. One thing about Enland though, they don't have religous tolerence written in their laws. So, after the bombings that took place over a year ago in London, England closed the Mosque and deported the Muslim rabbi who was behind the attacks. Here, because of our freedom of religion, the Gov't can't close a mosque or church, even if they were promoting violence. Now, there is a Hindu School that's opening in Atlanta, GA, and everyone seems happy about it.

HINDU

The Hindu religion dates back to over 3,000 BC and has had many different leaders. Hindus believe in achieving a higher power, or station in life. They believe that humans are on the lower end of that ladder. They believe that they reincarnate every time they die into another life form and will continue to do so until they achieve spiritual perfection, where they won't come back at all. And they believe all living creatures have the right to live. Unlike our Muslim "friends".

I know you wrote this a while back, I had thought I responded to it. I'm not the only one who watching TV had helped. One woman credited the show er, with saving her life. It was back when one of the main doctors found out he had a brain tumor. He found out when during an emergency, he somehow bit his tonue. One of the nurses told him to stick it out for her to examine it and when he did, it went to the side, not straight out. She told him to do it again and again it when to one side. When they did a cat acan, they found a brain tumor. Okay, the woman saw that and noticed her tongue did the same thing. On the show the doctor died from the tumor, but the woman caught hers in time, thanks to that show.

ISLAMIC SCHOOL SET TO OPEN IN NYC

CONTROVERSIAL SCHOOL

The same religious group that tried to wipe NYC off the face of the earth in 2001 now is going to open a school in that same city. And no one seems concerned. NYC is where the last terror plot was interrupted, when a group planned to blow up the supply lines that feed jet fuel to JFK airport. This school will make it easier to train terrorist without them having to travel to the middle east. For some unexplainable reason, the US is bending over backward to help the Muslims.

NORTH AMERICAN BLOC

BLOC

Although President Bush Denys it, there is talk of forming a North American Bloc to rival the EU. Actually I thought NAFTA was the beginning of such movement. The three countries could share in the production of goods and services and there wouldn't be a need for illegal aliens. The same goods made here for a set price would be produced in Mexico at that same price. Mexicans wouldn't need to cross the border for better jobs and American companies who have factories outside our borders will have to pay their employees the same as if they were on our soil. Nike would have to pay the Vietnamese the same as they would American employees. No forced labor or sweat shops.

CHINA FIGHTS BACK

IMPORTS

After a host of problems with Chinese exports, they are fighting back claiming that there are problems with the soybeans they've been importing from the US. Melamine has been foud in dog food and other products from China and Mattel Toy company has had problems with lead in the paints used on their Fisher Price toys. Even toothpaste imported from China has been found to be contaminated.

I know to the companies, its all about the dollar, but if those items were manufactured here in the US, there might not have been contamination problems. American products should be made in America.

TWO CHARGES AGAINST INTELLIGENCE OFFICER DROPPED

ABU GRAHIB

Lt. Col. Steven Jordan, who headed the interrogation center, is so far the highest ranked officer brought up on charges of the abuse of detainees. The two charges that were dropped were, lying to investigators and obstruction of justice.

Jordan still faces charges of cruelty and maltreatment of detainees, disobeying a superior officer and failure to obey orders. These charges are in violation of the Code of Uniformed Military Justice.

Since the abuse was uncovered, seven members of the soldiers stationed there have been tried and sentenced on charges. Brig. Gen. Janis Karpinski, who was commander of the prison, said she never knew of the abuse. She was demoted in rank to Colonel in 2005.

ILLEGAL IMMIGRANT WHO USED A CHURCH FOR SANCTUARY ARRESTED AND DEPORTED

DEPORTED

Elvira Arellano, 32, and her 8 yr old son had been using a church in Chicago for much of the past year for sanctuary to avoid deportation, was arrested over the weekend and deported. Arellano was ordered to be deported last year, but had become and advocate for illegals. She was deported once before, in 1997, but re-entered the country again illegally and was convicted of a felony of using a stolen social security card to obtain a job cleaning airliners.

Arellano wants to be compared to Rosa Parks, in her fight for justice, but Rosa Parks was not arrested on felony charges. And she didn't break the law several times. Plus, Rosa Parks was a citizen of the US.

TALES FROM THE NURSING HOME

Well, the nursing home has been shocked tonight. At least one state inspector came in after 7pm. finding section 1 with only one CNA. There is no telling how short staffed we really were tonight. The inspectors usually talk to me and Denise when they come through during the day and we've been telling them that we are always fully staffed during the day. If they want to catch the problems, its the night shift that is ALWAYS short staffed. As soon as the inspector walked in, the supervising nurse was on the phone trying to call people in. I don't know if she was successful or not.

TRAIN HITS TEEN WHILE TEXTING

TEEN

A teen in Elwood, Ohio was struck by a train while the teen was texting on his cell phone while crossing the tracks. The gate was down and the alarms were working as a south bound train passed, but unaware of a train coming from the other direction, the teen went around the gate and walked across the track when the north bound train struck him. He was knocked several feet and was unconscious, but came to without remembering being struck.

DEMOCRATS GIVE BUSH ADMINISTRATION MORE POWER

DOMESTIC SPYING

A Democratic Congress passed a bill that gives more power to the Bush Administration than they sought. It allows searches without warrants and allows the collection of business records. Under this new legislation, the FBI can collect the business records of a business here in the US if they suspect that the business is connected to someone outside the US.
As for wiretapping, the new law allows them to do what is called a "trap and trace." They can randomly "trap" certain phone calls, then trace them to identify calling patterns of those here in the US.

ABU GHRAIB

OFFICER

Finally an Intelligence Officer is being brought to trail for the abuse that took place at the Iraqi's infamous prison, Abu Ghraib. The abuse of Iraqi prisoners of war took place at the prison between September 17, 2003 to August 19, 2004. Since then several enlisted personnel have been tried but not until has an officer been brought up on charges; although all those tried had testified that they were just following orders.

NURSING HOME UPDATE, CON'T

Karen Y. said...

WOW! That is shocking. Did you lose any hearing?

Well, the doctor said that I had lost 10% of my hearing, but after seeing the damage done, he was shocked it was ONLY 10%. What he thought at first would be only a 45 minute surgery turned into a 3 hour surgery. He had to reconstruct the area behind my eardrum. He said he was glad I saw that show and kept pushing my doctor into sending me to an ENT specialist. Had I waited, the damage would have been worse and I might have lost all hearing in my left ear. But now he says I should hear fine with only a slight decrease on the left side.

FOOD SAFETY

CONSUMERS IN DANGER?

Right now the FDA is holding off on closing some of its field labs. That concerns some about the safety of our food supply but doesn't the USDA have overlapping responsibility as the FDA when it comes to food? After all, its the USDA that inspects the meat supply as well as most produce. I think we would be better served if the FDA concentrate on the drugs and the USDA concentrate on the food supply.

NURSING HOME UPDATE

I know I told you all about me having cellulitus and going to the hospital but I had to go back at the beginning of this month for surgery on my left ear.

It started when I saw last year on the discovery health channel about this guy whose ear would constantly pop like he was changing altitude. When he went to the doctor, they found a growth behind his eardrum that had ate its way through the mastoid bone to where part of his brain had slipped into his ear canal. Well, I had the popping and dizziness like he did, so I pushed my doctor to have me sent to an ENT specialist. Sure enough I had a similar grown behind my eardrum. Luckily for me, it had only made a tiny hole in the mastoid bone which the doctor repaired. So, now I'm doing better with no more popping in my ear and no dizzy spells. Sometimes it pays to watch tv.

NY GOVERNOR HAS TOY INSPECTORS RAID STORES

RECALL

Gov. Spitzer has order safety inspectors to go into stores in New York and pull all the toys that were made in China that toy manufacturer Mattel had promised to pull from store shelves. These toy were either painted with lead based paint or had small parts that could become a choking hazzard. Spitzer wanted these toys pulled and melted down.

O.J.'S BOOK

Karen Y. said...

The question is why it needed to be granted in the fist place. He owes them if my memory is correct.

The Goldman's won a wrongful death lawsuit, but because of the trial, O.J. lost all of his endorsements and job opportunities, so he hasn't been able to pay them the money he owes.

The he writes this book which is supposed to be fiction, detailing how he could have pulled of the murders on his own. Because of the "Son of Sam" law, no one can profit from the crimes they supposed to have committed, so the judge granted the Goldman's the rights to the book. That way if they decide to publish it, they would get the proceeds and possibly the amount of the judgement they were awarded in court.

Dennis said...

I think the judge was right in this ruling. Even though he was not convicted of the crime, you know he did it. He once said that he wouldn't stop until the real killer was caught, but it doesn't look like he is trying too hard.

No he isn't, and he wrote this book as a confession and he can't be convicted because he was already acquitted at trial. I've always said it was possible that he did it, it's just the police mishandled the crime scene before the coroner's dept took possession of the crime scene. Therefore any evidence found wouldn't be admissible in court.

4 FETUSES FOUND AT THE HOME OF A MOTHER OF 4

BABIES

A 37 yr old mother of 4 was arrested after police, investigating a story about a woman who had recently gave birth with no apparent baby. When police came to her house, the found her pre-term fetus wrapped in a blanket in the bathroom. As they further searched, they found another 3 fetuses. They are trying to determine if the fetuses are hers and if they were still borns or aborted fetuses.

GOLDMAN'S FAMILY GETS RIGHTS TO O.J.'S BOOK

GOLDMAN

A bankruptcy judge granted the rights to O.J. Simpson's book to settle a $38 million wrongful death lawsuit that Ron Goldman's family filed against Simpson. Bad publicity kept Simpson himself from publishing it. His book titled "If I Did It", according to Simpson, was a fictional account of how he could have committed the murders of his ex-wife Nichole Brown Simpson and Ron Goldman. O.J. was acquitted of those murders.

BOTTLED WATER-CONTINUED

Karen Y. said...

I have heard Dansi is tap water from England. That seems dirtier than Massachusetts since we are suppose to have superior water treatment facilities. It has always seemed odd to pay for something you can drink for free.

That's the biggest rip off, you pay a dollar a bottle for something you can get basically for free by turning on the tap. I admit that some cities' tap water doesn't taste all that great and some cities have had to improve their treatment plants due to crytospiridium that hit Milwaukee several years ago. But, you can buy water filters that fit on the faucet that will catch such things but will also improve the taste of the water.

DRUNK IN SPACE

Karen Y. said...

Goes to show no matter the position held.......humans are human.

True, but to have drunk astronauts responsible for billions of dollars worth of equipment is crazy.

Of course there are even drunk doctors. That's a scary thought.

LOHAN CONTINUED

Karen Y. said...

I have to wonder why none of the places she partied at while under age got in trouble. Everyone KNEW she wasn't of legal drinking age. Maybe now the celebrity above the law will end?

I doubt it because just like with Paris Hilton, bar owners pay these girls to come to their clubs because that will draw more people in to drink in those bars. Anytime any of the celebrity women are hitting certain clubs, it's the best advertising that club can get. So, I don't think they want to stop the underage celebs from drinking in those clubs.

SCOOTER LIBBY

Dennis said...

First: No one has ever been charged with leaking Valerie Plames name to Robert Novak.
Second: Richard Armitage was the one who told Robert Novak about Valerie Plame and he was under Colin Powell, not Dick Cheney. To this day, he has not been brought up on any charges and Fitzgerald doesn't plan too.
Third: Libby was charged with a process crime, not leaking her name, just a bad memory. You cna't single him out for that either, Hillary Clinton suffered from a bad memory during Whitewater and the FBI file scandal, Bill CLinton seemed to suffer from them also.
Fourth: I don't recall the exact authors name, but the woman who helped write the law that pertained to agents under cover stated that Valerie Plame was not a Covert Agent according to the Law as it was written.
Finally: The Cheney's War bit is just getting old. So is the Rumsfelds War mantra. it is a Tin Foil hat issue and is about as crazy as the FDR knowing beforehand about Pearl harbor.

This investigation went about like Kenneth Star's investigation of Bill Clinton. It started with White Water and ended up with his affair with Monica Lewinski. Libby was made the scape goat so that the one who truely released Plames identity could go free. If they really wanted to get the one who leaked Plame's identity then Armitage should be charged.

VALARIE PLAME

Dennis said...

I think we are going to find out more about this story as time goes on and I don't think Valerie Plame is going to wind up being as heroic as the media has made her

I don't think the press has made her into a heroine, but just a person whose clandestine job was ruined by someone in the White House. It would be the same as revealing the identity of undercover DEA agents. That puts their job at risk.

AQUAFINA LABELS SHOW WATER SOURCE

BOTTLED WATER

Aquafina is finally going to own up to the fact that most bottled water is just treated tap water. Some bottled water labels claim "mountain spring" or glacial water" as the source. One company has a picture of a mountain lake on the label when the actual source of the water was a tap in a parking lot next to an industrial park in Massachusetts. Since it was revealed, five bottlers that were using that source has stopped. The link below answers most questions about bottled water.

ASTRONAUTS FLYING DRUNK

DRINKING

Seeing that the space shuttle is built to fly like an airplane, no wonder some astronauts fly drunk. Airline pilots fly drunk. But then you have to wonder about the recent tragedies, whether if the crew were clear headed, would they have known they were in trouble earlier? With all the screening they go through from begining of preflight up to launch, it's a wonder no one has caught it yet.

LOHAN DOES IT AGAIN

DUI

Lindsay Lohan was just in court for DUI and has been in rehab twice, and now she has been arrested again after chasing the mother of her personal assistant at speeds of over 100 mph while two guys were sitting in the back seat fearing for their lives. When she was arrested, her blood alcohol level was 0.12 and 0.13. In CA the legal limit is 0.08. While at the police station, a white powder was found in her pocket which tested positive for cocaine. Everyone wonders if her career will survive these incidents.

CIA LEAK

Dennis said...

I think we are going to find out more about this story as time goes on and I don't think Valerie Plame is going to wind up being as heroic as the media has made her

Maybe not, but I don't think that Dick Cheney is going to come out clean from this either. Joe Wilson criticized the Iraqi war and Cheney wasn't going to have someone criticize his war. This time Cheney was able to do what he couldn't as Secretary of Defense and that was take out Sadam. And he wants to finish the war he didn't get to in 1991.

BAD DEAL

WEAPONS

You would think after dealing with Irag that the US would learn it's lesson. Not only that but Saudi Arabia has always been a friend that you never turned your back on. Especially since Osama Bin Ladan is a Saudi. And yet the US wants to sell them advanced weapons??? Back in the 1980's, the US sold weapons to Sadam to fight Iran, only to have some of those same weapons used against our troops in Desert Storm.

If this deal goes through, we might have to fight against those weaspons at a later time.

THE TRUTH OF MUSLIMS

I got this from my brother-in-law and I thought I would share it.

Subject: Hooray for Michigan State

The story begins at Michigan State University with a mechanical
engineering professor named Indrek Wichman. Wichman sent an e-mail to
the Muslim Student's Association. The e-mail was in response to the
students' protest of the Danish cartoons that portrayed the Prophet
Muhammad as a terrorist. The group had complained the cartoons
were "hate speech."

Enter Professor Wichman. In his e-mail, he said the following:

Dear Moslem Association:
As a professor of Mechanical Engineering here at MSU I intend to
protest your protest. I am offended not by cartoons, but by more
mundane things like beheading of civilians, cowardly attacks on
public buildings, suici de murders, murders of Catholic priests (the
latest in Turkey ), burnings of Christian churches, the continued
persecution of Coptic Christians in Egypt , the imposition of Sharia
law on non-Muslims, the rapes of Scandinavian girls and women (called
"whores" in your culture), the murder of film directors in Holland,
and the rioting and looting in Paris France . This is what offends me,
a soft-spoken person and academic, and many, many of my colleagues. I
counsel you dissatisfied, aggressive, brutal, and uncivilized slave-
trading Muslims to be very aware of this as you proceed with your
infantile "protests."
If you do not like the values of the West - see the 1st Amendment -
you are free to leave. I hope for God's sake that most of you choose
that option.
Please return to your ancestral homelands and build them up yourselves
instead of troubling Americans.

Cordially,
I. S. Wichman
Professor of Mechanical Engineering

As you can imagine, the Muslim group at the
univers ity didn't like this too well. They're demanding that Wichman
be reprimanded and the university impose mandatory diversity training
for faculty and
mandate a seminar on hate and discrimination for all freshmen.
Now the local chapter of CAIR has jumped into the fray. CAIR, the
Council on American-Islamic Relations, apparently doesn't believe that
the good professor had the right to express his opinion.

For its part, the university is standing its ground in support of
Professor Wichman , saying the e-mail was private, and they don't
intend to publicly condemn his remarks.
That will probably change. Wichman says he never intended for his e-
mail to be made public, and wouldn't have used the same strong
language if he'd known it was going to get out.

Send this to your friends, and ask them to do the same. Tell them
to keep passing it around until the whole country gets it. We are in a
war. This political correctness is getting old and killing us.

If you agree with this, please send it to all your friends, if not
simply delete it.

That's like another story I heard. This one church, in an effort to bridge the gap between Christians and Muslims invited a Muslim to come speak to their church. The Muslim said that the purpose of his religion was to recruit as many Muslims as they could to kill all the infidels. When someone asked him who are the infidels the Muslim said that an infidel was anyone who wasn't a Muslim. So the church leader asked the Muslim that wouldn't it be better to follow someone who taught to love your fellow man than to follow someone who teaches to kill those who don't believe the same as you do?

Think about it.

FREE SPEECH-CON'T

Karen Y said...

Hhhhmmmmmmm...........sounds like they need to review what free speech is. I believe every issue should be open to debate; however, it should always remain respectable to allow people to give solid opinions and not ones polluted with foul non-thinking word choices.

I know over the years the Supreme Court has defined free speech, but this is the first time an age was tied to it. I know you can't yell "fire" in a crowded room, but to make a joke about drug use, while dis-tasteful, shouldn't be considered illegal unless it's promoting such acts.

But I'm back and recovering nicely. Sorry I haven't been able to write until now. I do appreciate the responses I got while I was gone.

TUNNELS FOUND DURING DRUG RAIDS

TUNNELS

Two tunnels were found linking Nogales, AZ to Nogales, Mexico. These tunnels were found during simultaneous raids conducted by American and Mexican law enforcement. One tunnel was reenforced in some places with wood and sandbags. And was lighten. Law enforcement officals new about these tunnels and kept them under surveilance, conducting the raids before the tunnel could be put to use smuggling drugs.

According to the article, over 20 tunnels have been found between these two towns. If drug smugglers can build tunnels without detection. who else can do it?

FORMER ALABAMA GOVERNOR SENTENCED TO 7 YEARS

SIEGELMAN

Today, the court sentenced former Alabama Governor Don Siegelman to seven years and four months for his part in a bribery scheme in his effort to get a state lottery. Siegleman is a Republican with a Democratic legislature. There is no way they were going to let a state lottery come into being. That would make too much sense. Georgia has a state lottery and it helps students and teachers. It helps pay for school activities and other educational function. That was what Siegelman wanted to bring to Alabama, where we have schools that are falling apart, students out in portables because they haven't built enough schools to hold all the students.

But, again, that's a Republican Governor battling a democratic Legislature. Just like Guy Hunt. He was nearing the end of his second term. Since he knew he couldn't run again, he took some of the money out of his campaign war chest and used it to buy a house. He was brought up on Ethics charges and found guilty. Now, after Hunt was removed from office, Jim Folsom JR. took over as governor. Now, before he was removed from office, Guy Hunt had been working to get Mercedes to build a plant near Vance. After Hunt's removal from office, Folsom took over the negotiations. He gave Mercedes the land tax free, and not only that, but he called out the National Guard to clear the land that the plant would be built on. An Ethics group from Washington was looking into the deal.By the time they made a decision, Folsom was ending his term in office.

SUPREME COURT LIMITS STUDENT'S FREE SPEACH

FREE SPEECH

The Supreme Court, in a 5-4 ruling, put limits on student's free speech, especially if it advocated drug use, and in the case that started the debate. The court stated that students have free speech but "they may not be disruptive or lewd or interfere with a school's basic educational mission."

CHENEY'S AIDE EXPLAINS CHENEY'S POSITION ON THE EXECUTIVE ORDER

DOCUMENTS

One of VP Cheney's aides wrote an explaination as to why Cheney says he is exempt for the Exective order having the Archeives to view how his office handles "secret" documents. Cheney Chief of Staff David S. Addington wrote that the Executive order treats the offices of President and Vice President as agencies of the executive branch. They hold that neither is an agency of the Excutive Branch, they are the offices of the Excutive Branch. The National Archieves and Records Dept has been battling Cheney since 2003. The order was created by President Clinton and amended by President Bush.

CIA RELEASES FILES ON MISDEES

CIA

For the first time in his history, The Central Intelligence Agency is opening its files for the Archieves to preview before Archieving them. One set of documents are from the 1950s through the 70s. The collection is known as The Family Jewels.

FAMILY JEWELS

The second set of documents are from 1953-1974 and covered the ins and outs of the Soviet Union and China. Those documents were called CAESER-POLO-ESAU.

EPA NOT PROTECTING THE ENVIRONMENT

EPA

The Environmental Protection Agency is doing everything BUT protecting the environment. They are supposed to the air quality standards based on scientific test. Today they released a recommendation for the smog level. This recommendation was set after a two day meeting with industry officials. The level they set was .08 parts per million. The EPA's own scientist say that levels as low as .06-.065 ppm, would reduce deaths related to heart attacks or respiratory ailments by 75 percent. But instead of listening to their own scientist, they are listening to scientist that have their interest in industry, not public health.

The EPA has given two weeks for the public to make their opinions known before the make their levels permanent. If they do, we might all have to wear respirators.

FBI SURVEILLANCE

HOOVER

J. Edgar Hoover, the head of the FBI from its creation until his death in 1975, had his agency keeping up surveillance through wiretapping and following members of the Lawyers Guild. Just like McCarthy, he was afraid that they Guild was a subversive group out to destroy the government. As the FBI files are being archived, the extent of their surveillance of Martin Luther King Jr. and others involved in the Civil Rights movement, is coming to light.

Alot has been made of the wiretapping that President Bush knows about, but it doesn't compare to the wiretapping Hoover and the FBI did from the 50s through to the 70s. And they didn't bother at that time to get any warrants to do the wiretapping.

FATHER KILLS WIFE AND KIDS

LAW AND ORDER

A case which the police say was inspired by an episode of Law and Order: SVU, a father killed his wife and 3 kids in the family van, then tried to blame the wife for the shooting.

Christopher Vaughn, 32, has be charged with killing his wife Kimberly, 34, and their children: Abigayle, 12, Cassandra, 11, and Blake, 8. According to Vaughn, the family got up a 5am to go to the Springfield Water Park, when Kimberly complained of being sick, so he pulled the SUV down a back road to a subdivison. He stated that as he walked toward the road, he notied his leg bleeding, He claimed no to remember anything after that.

In a recent episode of Law & Order: SVU, the man claims that his wife shot everyone, including herself, only to be later charged with the murder of his wife and kids.
After his arrest, the police conduct a search of his house, removing computers, along with what appeared to be VCR and a TiVo. The police even asked friends and neighbors if they knew if that Vaughn ever watched "SVU."

BUSH FOLLOWS CHANEY'S REFUSAL

SECRETS

President Bush is following the example given by his Vice President, by refusing to let the Information Security Oversight Office review his office. And this is the office that he amended in 2003 requiring ALL offices of the Executive Branch to allow the Oversight Office to monitor their handling of secret documents. And I know Bush can't claim not to be of the Executive Branch.

Bobby Cutts Jr.

JESSIE DAVIS

MURDERED

Body of missing Ohio mother, Jessie Davis, 26, was found a week after her 2 yr old son was found home alone, bedroom furniture knocked over, and the comforter from the bed missing, along with his mother. The son was helpful from the begining, and saying that mommy broke the table and that mommy was in a rug.

The police said that information, along with more the boy told, but the police won't say, was responsible for solving this mystery.

Jessie's body was found in Summit County, a few miles from her house, in a park. Bobby Cutts is a cop in a near by town. Eventhough Cutts fathered Jesse's son and possibly the father of her unborn daughter, he was married to another woman.

VP NOT PART OF THE EXECUTIVE BRANCH

CHENEY

All the history and high school government classes have to change what they teach, Cheney says that the office of Vice President is not part of the Executive Branch of Government. He says that since he is President ProTem of the Senate, that makes his office part of the legislative branch.

The debate as to which branch of Government the office of Vice President falls under started with his refusal to turn over his records to the Information Security Oversight Office, an office that Clinton created and Bush endorsed, as an entity that secures and protects secret documents from the Executive Branch. Its job is to see that secret documents stay secret.

Cheney refuses to turn over documents from his office, saying that his office is nor part of the Excutive Branch. Makes you wonder what secrets he doesn't even want a Govenment Office seeing?

BIRTH ORDER AND INTELLIGENCE

FIRST BORN

A new study from Norway shows that the is a correlation between birth order and intelligence. According to the study, the first born enjoys a period of time as the only child and therefore is the center of attention. This allows the first child to learn more since there are no other siblings to compete with.

Other journal articles show very little correlation between birth order and intelligence, other than to say that the younger siblings may have a slight advantage because they observe their older siblings studying and may pick up information from them.

I know that was how it was for me. I always watched my older sisters and brother doing their homework and by the time I started school, I was a couple of grades ahead of my age. My oldest sister, and the oldest of the siblings, graduated high school and went to tech school for cosmetology. Then there is a set of fraternal twins, my second sister has been a legal secretary most of her adult life. Her twin brother was in the army and has other manual labor jobs. Then there is me, which has graduated college and has had some graduate school. Then there's my younger sister, who has worked at several service jobs.

There are a lot of other factors that effect intelligence besides birth order. Did the parents read alot to the child. Was the child allowed to observe their parents or older siblings working on problems? That can effect it. Exposure to lead can effect it. Nutrition even effects it. So, you can't say just one factor and only one effects intelligence.

MOTHERS TURN THEMSELVES IN

FIRE

One mother turned herself in and the other was arrested in the deaths of five children in that fire in Pittsburgh, PA. The children ranged from 4 yrs to 7 yrs old and were left in the care of two 8 yr old boys while the mothers went to a bar for a few drinks. The two 8 yr old escaped unharmed. The fire was believed to have been started by kids playing with matches.

They sound as responsible as my have sister's mother, who left two 2 yr olds in care of a 4 yr old while she went to the bar. Some mother's don't deserve kids.

HONOR KILLING

Svit said...

it is very limited to write about muslims. Its like talking about christians taking one case of mormons.seriously, note next time what country and village it happened. Plus, would also not hurt to note (if reporter didnt) that muslim - people that belong to certain religion but they do reflect traditions of own country more then of its religion.
Oh, boy.... do I change mind of someone who has never been outside of own village (or even continent)? No. So why bother? Good luck in making war on the planet. Especially in such a "peacefull" period. (From next blog).

DAD SHOOTS DAUGHTER

In 2007 a father in Arman, Jordan, shot his 17 yr old daughter 4 times in the head because he thought she was having sex. The daughter had went to a woman's clinic a couple of weeks before and shown to be a virgin at that time and was only released to her parents after they signed a statement that nothing would happen to the girl. The autopsy showed that the girl was still a virgin when she died. According to the article, it was Jordan's first honor killing that year. They usually average 20 such killings a year.

HONOR KILLINGS

In 2004, there was an estimated 1200 honor killings in Pakistan. It is so accepted that family members have no qualms about it.

So a son could forgive his father for murdering his mother, a mother could forgive her husband for killing their daughter, a father could forgive his brother and so on," says Saba Gul Khattak, executive director of the Sustainable Development Policy Institute (SDPI) and a women's rights activist.

BRITIAN'S HONOR KILLINGS

In one case in Britian, a girl, living in Oxford, didn't want to marry the person her Bangladeshi parents arranged for her to marry. Instead she was seeing another guy and when she found out she was pregnant, they got married. Three months later, she was dead and her brother and father were on trial for her murder.

that's just one of 117 murders that happened in 2004 that Britian is re-investigating as possible honor killings.

NIFONG DISBARED IN NORTH CAROLINA

D.A. DISBARRED

Right before the Ethics Panel released it's findings, Michael Nifong said he thought disbarment would be appropriate punishment for what he had done. So, the panel took him up on his offer and their decision was for him to be disbarred. They have decided what further punishment was warranted.

Nifong was found guilty of lying to the judge and defense attorney and he withheld ex culpable evidence that showed none of the lacrosse players were guilty of raping the dancer. He used this case to help him in 2006 election. Nifong will lose his job, his license to practice law and may have to pay back the state for the cost of his investigation.

FIGHTING SENATORS

ALABAMA

A fight broke out on the senate floor here in Alabama when two senators got into a heated argument. Sen. Charles Bishop, R-Jasper, and Sen. Lowell Barron, D-Fyffe, got into an emotional exchange when Bishop hit Barron hit Bishop on the side of the head, knocking him over a desk. Other senators intervened before any other blows could be delivered. It's the most attention that the Alabama Senate has gotten since 1999 when the Lt. Gov. Steve Windom-Rep, was in the middle of a filibuster and was afraid to leave the front of the senate chamber to go to the restroom, so he urinated in a hidden jug. The story followed him in his bid for the Governor's office.

CHILD MOLESTER

RESPIRATORY THERAPIST

Wayne Albert Bleyle, 55, a respiratory therapist, who worked at Rady Children's Hospital in San Diego, CA, for 25 years, pled guilty to eight counts of forcible lewd acts upon a child and four counts of exhibiting a minor in pornography. Under the plea agreement, he will serve 45 yrs and 4 months instead of the 165 yrs if the case has went to the jury.

Bleyle said that he chose the most brain damaged, most non-verbal because he knew they couldn't tell on him. One victim was 2 yrs old. Two of the girls as since died.

My opinion is that he should serve his sentence in the general population instead of segregation. In general population, child molesters don't last very long.

SKELETON FOUND IN HOUSE

WOMAN'S SKELETON

An elderly woman's skeleton was found in her Middlefield, Conn. house, years after her death. Her neighbors said that they haven't seen her in seven years. The police were called when a family member was worried about her. The medical examiner said that she died of natural causes. Surprisingly, the electricity was still on in the house. And her ex-husband regularly mowed her lawn, but he said he didn't have keys to the house and never went inside.

A STRANGE MUSLIM TRADITION

HONOR KILLING

One tradition that Muslims have is honor killing. They believe that if a daughter does something that dishonors the family, the father has the right to kill her. In this case, the daughter, Banaz Mahmod, 20, left her abusive husband from a pre-arranged marriage and was seeing another man. Several attempts had been made on hers and her boyfriend's life since they started seeing each other. The boyfriend went to the police again when she didn't show up for a date. She was found 3 months later, in a suitcase buried in a backyard garden. She had been strangled with a bootlace. Britian has seen 25 honor killings in the past decade, but there are 100 other deaths that are under investigation.

POSTAL WORKERS

HUH?

I thought the word "ergonomics" meant comfort and ease of use. So, what is an ergonomic injury? Besides that, what do postal workers do now that can cause injury but maybe spill hot coffee on themselves? They hardly ever leave their truck anymore, the pull up to a curbside mailbox and take the mail and put mail in. Real hard work. They might be a paper cut. I guess OSHA needs to protect them from that.

NIFONG

Dennis said...

This case in of itself is ground breaking. Lawyers usually only punish each other through the respective states Bar Assosiation. What is even more monumental is that a DA is on trial for the handling of a case. I am happy to see at least the State of North Carolina gets it. I suspect he may lose his license over this, if not his office.

I agree. I've seen D.A.s blunder cases but not as badly or blatantly as Nifong did. He had a victim who the police report that when they get to the scene, she was passed out in the front yard. Then she claimed the whole team gang raped her until photos made by one of the guys at the party show her dancing. These photos were time stamped. At the time she claimed she was being assaulted, she was in the living room of this house dancing. Plus, another girl came with her to the party and that girl claimed the victim was only out of her sight for a couple of minutes. The bruises the victim claimed to have gotten because of the attack, were clearly scene in the photos before the time of the supposed attack. Her fake fingernails had DNA evidence but it did not match anyone on the team. Nine months after the alleged attack, the victim has a baby, but refuses to have it's DNA tested. As the evidence stacked up that cleared the lacrosse time, the more Nifong refused to drop the charges. Only after the state stepped in, did he finally drop all charges.

DURHAM D.A. STANDS TRIAL A YEAR AFTER DUKE CASE

NIFONG

Former Durham, NC District Attorney Mike Nifong will stand trial for his handling of the Duke lacrosse rape case. He is charged with lying to the court and withholding potentially exculpatory evidence. All the charges against the lacrosse players have been dropped. Nifong ignored the fact that the victim's story kept changing, plus there wasn't any DNA evidence linking any of the players to the rape victim.

DEATH PENALTY

DETERENT

Recent studies show that the death penalty does deter murders. According to the studies, every execution prevents two or three murders. Some say that they could prevent as many as 14 murders a year. Even those who oppose the death penalty can not argue with the results of these tests.

IMMIGRATION BILL DIES IN SENATE

ILLEGALS

With the help of some Senators that opposed the bill, a grass roots movement, along with the Internet, killed the immigration bill. Many voters got on the Internet and asked other to email or call their Senators to oppose the bill that would make millions of illegal Mexicans already living in the US, citizen after a short process. The word "amnesty" was being used to describe the bill. I think they should round up every illegal they find and send them back and let them try re-entering the "legal" way. I was for the "guest worker" program as long as they go back to Mexico after the harvest season. After so many years of a responsible work history, then they can apply for citizenship. While they are working, they should have to take English classes so they can communicate with others here. I'm not saying they can't speak Spanish, but they should know English too. And take American History and Civics just other immigrants. I don't they should get special treatment because they slipped in illegally.

AWOL MOM GET HONORABLE DISCHARGE

MOM

A mom in the New Hampshire National Guard, had turned herself on AWOL charges when she came state side to fight for custody of her 7 yr old daughter, but because the hearing has been delayed, her leave, which had been extended a couple of times, had run out, making her Absent WithOut Leave. She applied for a Hardship discharge but was given a Honorable one, which is a big change from when my father was in the military, because back then the military said that if they wanted you to have a family, they would issue you one.

MISSING GIRL FOUND, CON'T

Karen Y. said...

They can get search warrants right away to look for drugs.........missing children aren't as important?

That's what I don't understand. I know that they had to have "probable cause" to get the warrent, but what evidence that had recently had to be what they had before.

karen said...

I agree with the Twin Karen (lol) another one thru the Cracks. so sad

By the way.. I think you are in hiding from me.. what is new in the Nursing home Drama?

Yes it is sad and it would have been sadder if she had been found dead instead of alive. No, I haven't been hiding, I'm still here.

WILD WHEELCHAIR RIDE, CON'T

I Know what you would have done... Screamed like a GIRL.. :-)
and of course wet your Pants.

I don't know about the "screamed like a girl" I don't know, but the wetting my pants, probably.

Karen Y. said...

My guess is you would have hung on for dear life! :)

Now that I know I would have done. and you would have had to pry my hands loose from my armrest.

PARIS HILTON, CON'T

Karen Y. said...

Aren't you curious what the medical condition was to get her released? I could have sworn there are some extremely sick people still in jail. There are some extremely sad people in there too!

There are alot of sick people in jail, both physically and mentally sick. And they get treatment in jail. I know this for fact because while I was taking "Correctional Psychology" in college, we took a tour of one of the prisons around Montgomery and they had a special wing for those with mental illnesses. As for the physically sick, they had a prison hospital. So her excuse for her being released was just that, an excuse. She didn't want to spent 45 days with "common criminals." Now had she committed a Federal crime she could have went to one of those "club feds." But, DUI is an offense that us common folk sometimes commit.

SKIN CELL BECOME STEM CELL, CON'T

Karen said...

Isn't that like saying all blondes are stupid? Shame on you for lumping Japanese like that.

Well, the field of scientist that are doing stem cell research isn't all that big. It's a highly specialized area with few scientist from the countries doing the research and we know one country's scientist faked their results.

Now if blondes held the key to stem cell research, then I would agree. But would you trust your doctor if you found out that he or she cheated their way thru medical school???

This research could be the answer to alot of diseases and shouldn't be trusted with someone who already admitted to cheating on their research before.

PARIS HILTON SENT BACK TO JAIL

HILTON

After thinking she didn't have to be present for her hearing today, Paris Hilton was dragged, handcuffed and crying, and put in the back of a patrol car for a ride to the court house. The judged had ordered the police to bring her to court. The judge said it was wrong for the sheriff to have released her for medical reasons when the jail has a medical facility in it.

The judge ordered back to jail, where she will be held in the prison infirmary for a few days undergoing psychological testing. She still may not have to served the rest of her 45 day sentence since they give time off for good behavior. She was in a cell without a roommate before the sheriff released her, even though the sheriff cited over crowding as a reason for her release to house arrest.

When the judge issued his order, Paris became hysterical and was reaching and calling for her mother before a couple of deputies dragged her from the courtroom.

PARIS HILTON

JAIL SENTENCE

Not even a week after entering jail for her drunk driving offence, Paris Hilton was sent home to finish her sentence under house arrest. Another case of celebrities getting away without paying their debt to society. Anyone else who was pulled over for DUI as many times as she had would be put in jail without hesitation. What happened to equal justice under the law??

WILD WHEELCHAIR RIDE

WHEELCHAIR AND SEMI

A man crossing a street in Grand Rapids, Michigan, got the handles of his electric wheelchair locked into the grill of a semi and was pushed down the road several miles before the police were able to stop the truck driver, who didn't even know that the wheelchair was there. The man was strapped in with a seat belt and the only damage to the chair was that the tires were wore down.

If it had been me, I don't know what I would have done.

MISSING GIRL FOUND

SECRET ROOM

A 14 year old girl was found in a secret room of a neighbor's house a year after she went missing. The neighbor was a 41 yr old dog trainer who lived with his 40 yr old common law wife and another woman who is 26. The police knew that the dog trainer knew the girl but couldn't get a search warrent until recently. All three are being charged with unlawful inprisonment, endangerment, and several other charges. Police are still not sure whether the girl was there willingly or not.

NEW STEM CELL NEWS

SKIN CELLS INTO STEM CELLS

The different groups of scientists have developed a technique that can turn skin cells into stem cells, eliminating the need for embryonic cells and reducing the controvery of stem cell research.

But since one of the teams was Japanese, they need to be careful, since two years ago, one scientist was caught faking his research results.

FAKE RESULTS

PROTESTING SOLDIER, CON'T

Dennis said...

He just wants out of the Military and this is how he is going to do it. These type of people are useless in the Military, so when they start this nonsense they should just give them a dishonorable discharge and say Good-Bye and not give them any publicity.

True, they should give the a dishonorable discharge and put it in their records that they were discharged for insubordination. That would ruin their chances of ever getting a job in management, which where a lot of ex-military go. Also, they should be a clause in the enlistment papers that if at any point they refuse to go into combat, if needed, they should have to pay the gov't back for all the money the gov't spent to train them. That would cut down on those who refuse to go where they are told to go.

PROTESTING SOLDIER

SOLDIER

This man knew what he could be getting into when he signed up for the military. I mean, everyone knows that the military is for, war. Anyone who signs up for the military has to expect the possibility of going into combat. That's why in boot camp they teach how to shoot and clean a gun, how to fight in hand-to-hand combat. It's not the boyscouts. If you are against war, don't sign up. Right now, there is no draft, you have the choice to join or not. I'd rather have our country protected by those who WANT to be in the military than those who don't.

JFK AIRPORT PLOT

TERRORIST PLOT

Four men, including a former baggage handler, at JFK airport, plotted to blow up the airport by using the jet fuel lines that run from NJ to the airport. The baggage handler, Russell Defreitas, a U.S. citizen and native of Guyana, was the one doing surveillance on the airport, noting escape routes, where the pipeline originated, security cameras. Another member of the group was an ex-Parliament member of Guyana. Two others were from Trinidad and Tobago.

The plot was uncovered last August by an informant. The informant was so convincing that he was flown to the terror group's compound for several meetings. During one of those meetings, Defreitas is heard saying that Americans love john F Kennedy so much that by blowing up JFK Airport would be like killing Kennedy twice, and that it would totally devastate the country, and would have a greater economic impact than the 9/11 attacks.

The informant was a twice convicted drug dealer. Like most informants, they end up working for the government hoping for a lighter sentence for was ever crimes they have committed. But informants have become another weapon in the war on terror. It was an informant that reveal the plot on Fort Dix.

MORE DETAILS COME FORWARD ABOUT TB PATIENT

XDR-TB PATIENT"

Robert Speaker, eventhough he knew he had tuberculosis, was so determined to get married in Greece, and Honeymoon in Italy, he took steps to make sure that his trip couldn't be stopped. He changed his departure date, meaning that he left sooner than he previously planned. Which caused him problems in Santorini, because Speaker didn't file the neccessary papers for a civil wedding.

MARRIAGE

TB MAN APOLOGIZES

HOMELAND SECURITY

Mr. Andrew Speaker, the man whose case of XDR-TB has been all over the news, has apologized for all the problems he caused to his fellow passengers all because he wanted to get married. Although Mr. Speaker was warned that it wouldn't be in his best interest to fly with his form of TB, but he claims he was never told he could be a danger to anyone else.

And another wrinkle in the case is that Mr. Speaker's father-in-law worked at the CDC, doing research on tuberculosis. Robert C. Cooksey said that the strain of TB that his Son-in-law has, did not originate at the CDC labs.

Mr. Speaker avoided being taken in while in Italy and instead flew to Prague, then to Montreal, and then drove across the border. By that time, there was an all points bulletin out for him to be detained. The border guard claimed that Mr. Speaker didn't appear sick, so he let him in. Now, anyone who has been following this story, will notice that there are gaps in our Homeland Security. Someone on a suicide mission, could cross our northern border with a case of small pox and infect a large portion of our population before anyone could know about it.
