TWO CHARGES AGAINST INTELLIGENCE OFFICER DROPPED

ABU GRAHIB

Lt. Col. Steven Jordan, who headed the interrogation center, is so far the highest ranked officer brought up on charges of the abuse of detainees. The two charges that were dropped were, lying to investigators and obstruction of justice.

Jordan still faces charges of cruelty and maltreatment of detainees, disobeying a superior officer and failure to obey orders. These charges are in violation of the Code of Uniformed Military Justice.

Since the abuse was uncovered, seven members of the soldiers stationed there have been tried and sentenced on charges. Brig. Gen. Janis Karpinski, who was commander of the prison, said she never knew of the abuse. She was demoted in rank to Colonel in 2005.
