CONGRESS TO GIVE FDA BROADER POWERS

RULES

Congress is set to give the FDA more power. One of the new regulations is that pharmaceutical companies will have to pay a new user fee totalling some $225 million over five years. This fee will cover all drug safety tests. Used to be that a drug company would pay a fee only when they submitted a new drug to be tested.

The FDA will also have the power to control the commerical ads of drugs that are out on the market.
